Unit 1: Advanced Electronic Circuits
In this unit we reviewed basic concepts from Grade 10: Computer Engineering Course but we also learned some new concepts and expanded knowledge from last year. We even reviewed how to convert binary to hexadecimal, hexadecimal to binary and binary to decimal. We reviewed Logic gates and their truth tables as well because we learned some more things about it.
We first reviewed logic gates. We learned about different logic gates and their truth tables, as well as their equations and symbols. We also learned about a way to simplifying Boolean equations to reduce the complexity of a system that consists of logic gates, this method is called Karnaugh Mapping. To reduce the number of logic gates being used, Karnaugh Mapping is used so that a simplified system is made that produces the same outputs with the same inputs.
We learned about how to Combine Logic Gates, by putting together to form more complex systems. These systems designs are used to create chips or processors. We learned about these systems and how they could be applied to anything that involves multiple inputs.
Lastly, we learned about Data Selectors, they are a combination of logic gates but in a smaller and more compact form. These chips can be custom-made but they are pretty expensive.
